- Based off the notes it appears the topsoil stripping and putting back on is included I the Comm Ex bid quantity?
The removal is included in the quantity of excavation as we developed the plan with the existing ground surface as the surface. There are additional removal areas not included in the excavation quantity that would need to be stripped in order to complete the fill work, but the finished grade includes the topsoil in place to arrive at the finished surface. Our expectation is that contractors would consider the stripping as incidental work associated with the excavation and embankment, but not consider it as something to be hauled or moved significantly.
- In the cut and fill tables in the cross section pages is the 8” of reclaimed base included in those numbers or has the 8” been removed?
The 8 inches is removed from the cross section quantities on the cross-section sheets as a calculated adjustment, but is not shown as such in the line work.
- It appears the since the obliterate old road is not a bid item the excavation quantity is included in the Comm Ex number? The typical sections only cover the straight part of the road or is a portion of the embankment number in the cross sections coming from the excavation of the old road(curve).
Yes, the excavation of the old road is part of the excavation quantity. The reclaimed material is to be salvaged off that curved section and replaced on the newly constructed and widened straight section. We did not include both alignments on the plan set of cross-sections for simplicity as the majority of the excavated material will be used to widen the straight section and the remainder will be used to fill ditches along that section and outside of the right-of-way of the straight section of road.
- Is the embankment quantity for building the new entrance at 3+50 and adding dirt to the entrances at 7+03 and 9+34 to accommodate the new pipe build into the Comm Ex number?
The new approaches are not included in the embankment totals, but excavation of the existing approaches to form the typical section ditches are included in the excavation quantity and our expectation is there is sufficient material available to construct the approaches as shown and will only reduce the volume of material to spread out while obliterating the old road bed.
Contractors wishing to submit a bid must obtain a full plan and proposal bid packet from the Pope County Highway Engineer's Office, 16139 State Hwy 29, Glenwood, MN 56334 for a nonrefundable cost of $50(includes sales tax).
